Hello,
I've been 'lurking' on dps for ages and have been devouring the newsletters/tutorials, etc. for quite a while. I've taken beginner and intermediate photography courses at a local college and a local arts center. I've read books, cruised blogs, you name it. I spent hours today researching what online course or workshop I could take to bring my photography to the next level. What I've never had the courage to do is to actually post something and get feedback. So, ... here goes!

August 2010-19

I'd appreciate any criticism you can give me.

hi there, welcome!

i think that this is great image, even though i have few remarks.
1. focus: child's right eye is sharp (and his eyes are beautiful), but left one is slightly out of focus (but that is almost invisible).
2. dof and background: dof is great on 2.0, but the thing that draws too much attention is that object (part of chair?) behind child's head. it just distracts viewers eyes.
3. framing is great, black and white conversion also. if i were on your place, i would put his eyes little to the upper left corner of the picture.

all that said, it's a great picture of a beautiful and cute child, with deep look and smile that makes you (the viewer) happy and smilin'.
