Default Fun in the evening sun

This is my first attempt at shooting into the sun to get that "sun-flare" look. I got below the subjects and pointed the lens up toward them with the sun behind them. It was around 5:30pm so the sun was still quite a bit above them. Did I capture it correctly? What can I do better next time?

Its always nice to see someone actually looking to include flare

You managed to catch the rim lighting very well, and the actual flare itself was weak enough yet present. It has left the subjects underexposed though.

It's a difficult trick to pull off if you're not using some external lighting, whether its a reflector or flash unit. That brings its own issues, but does make it easier once you know what you're doing.

In PP, if you pump up the exposure, you'll lose some of the warmth and saturation. You might try raising it a little then adding a warming filter to it...

Thanks, I'll try that! I did try a few shots with fill flash (on camera), but didn't like the results as well.

What metering mode were you using?
I think in this case a smaller aperture and using the lens hood might have helped minimize the extent of "washout"....
