Default Pure Frustration!

Okay, here is my question... Is it okay to cut part of a body part off in a picture like this? Someone told me that that is a big no no. Then I had an arts person tell me that they liked the foot part cut off because it adds more frustration to the picture.

What are your overall thoughts on this?

Any other impressions on the photo? I realize she isn't smiling and super happy, but this also reflects my daughter quite a bit, she is DRAMATIC. So I actually like the expression and I am fine with it, but what about anything else with this. I appreciate your feedback.

Becky

love how the wall fits her shoes
but I'll go with the "big no no" further since you with that extra space on the left side of the photo.
so on my side we have half a foot but on the other side we have empty space and a centered kid.
nothing much you can do right now, but I would have taken it in a horizontal orientation and would have put the kid to the left while leaving some space to the right.
you can always try cropping it and leaving the legs out of the photo.

This is just my personal opinion. I am by no means a pro. I would probably crop more off the top and bottom. I think this would bring more focus to the subject and her yellow bottomed shoes. I personally do not mind the foot being cropped. Prob. wouldn't have thought to do it but now that it is done i agree that it adds to the frustration. Love the colors in the shot

Default foot cut no good

As a rule of thumb i always leave lots of space around a subject. With our camera these days with their high mega pixels, you can always zoom in to find the subject matter you want to crop. It is ok to have parts not in the frame but only when it is delebrate.

The cut off foot isn't distracting at all in my opinion.
I do like the yellow background. It strengthens the photo and emotion so much.

Yes I did... but I am not actually sure I like the vignette. I did one with both, one with, one without.

Becky, i like it- i think it's nice to see a range of emotions. i would crop some off the top and bottom and probably experiment with how a head and shoulders would look. or if it's possible to keep the hands but not make a leg crop too obvious- if the skirt is long enough

Thanks Kristenh, can you explain what you mean by experiment with how a head and shoulders would look? Thanks!

The vignette is the dark ring circling the edges of the picture.

I like the cut foot.

Would probably crop in further to focus on the shoes a bit more.
