Default Malibu Surf

Bribed my son to sit for me today. My intention was to play with my flash and learn more about using the Honl Traveller8 which I bought a while back but have not really used much. Looking for general critique of the shot and whether I used the off camera flash to make a more interesting picture. I noticed that I did not get a catchlight in his eyes. Do you feel this detracts?

I used a Lumopro LP160 through the Honl Traveller8 and mixed with pretty strong ambient light.

Malibu Surf

Camera Canon EOS 40D
Exposure 0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperture f/5.0
Focal Length 52 mm
ISO Speed 100
Flashpower was set to 1/8 or 1/16 I do not recall which.

it's a lovely picture but I do feel the shadows are a bit strong.
using a reflector on the other side would have solved that problem for you.

I love his expression in this photo! he looks so mischievous.. LOL My only issues with this photo is the dotted decoration in the background and the chair in the foreground.. those are very distracting. Next time you could either have him sit on the floor or in the chair in front of the plain white wall. And next time take just a second (literally) and scoot the chair out of the photo
