Okay....so high pass is all I really do to edit my pictures but I was recently told, anonymously, that using high pass makes photos look ridiculous. Anyway, I'm posting a sample of a picture with no editing and one with the high pass and I want to know what you guys think.
Tell it to me straight. I can handle it. If anything, it just means less time in front of the computer. Don't critique the picture, just the high pass. ![]() Thanks in advance!

Yea I am not sure what high pass is, but whatever it is in that photo I like it. I think "totally rediculous" is an exaggeration! haha. It looks really good in this example. Do you have others where you have used it more?

Your image may be ever-so-slightly over sharpened but "ridiculous" is a gross exaggeration. I don't know what number you are using for your radius when you use the High Pass Filter, but you should be able to dial it down to a more subtle setting. Usually a setting between 2.0 and 4.0 depending on the size of the image. Since you run the High Pass in a new layer you can also lower the opacity of the new layer to reduce the sharpening effect, if need be.

Sometimes people are just talking out their @*$, whoops did I type that out loud? You could maybe dial it down a tad, or mask out some parts. Jealous that all you have to do is sharpen!

I love it!! If I wanted a flat photo I would just get some stranger on the street to take a snap shot. This isn't my opnion but I have heard from some parents that they don't want their kids eyes to be too overdone because then they look fake. With this picture it seems like a happy medium. I'd pay for this photo!

Thanks everyone! I think I will dial it down a little...maybe just use a little contrast. Seriously, thank you for the feedback!
