Default Shadows?

I'm a true beginner at photography and am looking for any info that will help me learn/improve. This photo is of my grandson in a rare moment of sitting still. My question is about the shadows. Any tips on eliminating them?

Other than that specific question, please feel free to point out other problem areas. I'm here to learn all I can.

Exposure Time: 0.0050 s (1/200)
Aperture: f/10.0
ISO Equiv.: 200

I'll stick to discussing the shadows.
The shadows aren't horrible. And what minor shadow issues you do have is related to shooting in bright sunlight which always creates harsh shadows.

In this situation try to get him in open shade or at a later/earlier time of the day where the sun light is softer. Or fill flash.

The fact that you're shooting in bright open sunlight also flattens all the colors and kills the depth of your image.

yes, I know it's tough to get a kid to do what's needed, but those are the things needed to deal with the issue you mentioned. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. This shot is SOOC. When I get it into Photoshop I'll be certain to tone down the reds. That was bothering me, too. And in retrospect, I wish I'd opened up the aperture more for a less distracting background.

As for the shadows, I'm happy to know they aren't as bad as I had thought. This was definitely a very bright day and I haven't really got the hang of lighting issues yet. Your tips are helpful. I'll just keep practicing, practicing, practicing
