I think overall it's a good picture... it's sharp with a nice DOF. As a Mom it's not a pose I would want going in the yearbook for my daughter's senior picture. I think for a modeling shoot or something of that nature it's very nice.

I'm not feeling the dead center positioning...maybe you could cut off some of the left???

like jax, I think it's a nice shot but the space on the left is preventing it from becoming a great shot.

I have to agree with the previous posts as well. The dead space on the left makes you feel like something is missing. Also, with a tighter crop you can make out more of the details in her face.

Maybe it's me, but one more thing that kinda distracts me is her hand. Maybe it is the nailpolish, or just the fact that the skin tone seems lighter on her hand than the rest of her arm. If she is ok with it, I would pp her nail polish out and add some color to her hand. That's just me. I'm sure that will take some time, but I think it would be better than cropping out her hand too.

I also have to agree with Terri, as a mom I'm not sure how I would feel about this pose. I don't think it would be so bad if she was wearing a letterman or just something revealing less skin. I also understand it is up to the client what they want to wear. Just my $0.02.

Thank you everyone for all your comments I completely understand the "revealing" clothing. I am thinking this dress was chose because it was over 100 degrees out that day. I have read several articles sayng that it isn't always a good idea to have a bare arm when shooting from the side like that. And of course I read all of this after the picture haha. I am glad I recieved your feedback and now I know these things for the future.

I have to disagree about this being the slightest bit suggestive.

Anyway, her pose looks a little awkward, and I don't like how her head is positioned. The near-blown parts of the background are distracting to me. Getting her into an area where the dynamic range of light wasn't so big would have helped a lot. Generally (not always), I underexpose my background about 1/3 - 1 stop and use off-camera fill flash to expose my subject. You might want to try that out to see how you like it.

The composition isn't doing too much for me. I don't like that she is pretty much in the center of the frame, and I'm not a big fan of where the tree is located in the background.

I like the idea of the photo, but I think there are definitely ways to improve it. Keep at it.

+1 on just about everything Nate has to say here. The clothing choice and the position looks rather normal to me for today's senior portraits. Compared to some seniors I shot not too long ago, this is mild.

really wish that tree wasn't where it is. curious if the girl has seen it- to me, she looks chubby, maybe chubbier than she really is, in that position.
