A photo of my daughter having a blast under the rain. This would be breaking the rule of thirds, right?

thanks

It would yes, but aren't rules there to be broken?
Like very much how you captured the rain

Yup, definitely breaking that rule of thirds. But with such a great little model who cares? She looks like she's having fun!

breaking the rules makes great photos!
I always say, you need to know the rules so you can break them - and you did it just the right way

It's also breaking the rule of not sticking out your tongue in public, but she doesn't seem to care. It's beautiful! This shot makes me like her & want to know her. I think you did a great job.

If you're worried about the rule of thirds, take comfort in that you've still got the horizon in the right spot

As for the subject being in the centre... I think you've more than off-set any rule of thirds 'rule breaking' by getting a great perspective and some nice framing (buildings on either side of street in the background).

I don't think there's any doubt that the composition 'works'... it's a really nice photo, you should be proud (of both the photo and your daughter).
