Default Was it something I said?

I bought a few cheap sunpak flashes a few weeks ago to go along with my SB600 and haven't really had time to play with them until today. My "model" gets pretty impatient when she's trying to cook dinner and I'm shoving a camera in her face, but unfortunately for her I hate taking photos of myself. I'm looking for any feedback on the lighting and editing. I've done a bit of skin smoothing and eye editing. Key light was an SB600 through umbrella high camera left, Sunpak flash gelled blue behind subject for background lighting.

EXIF:
Nikon D50
Nikkor 18-55 kit lens (it's a little tight in the apartment for anything longer)
f/6.3
1/250 sec
ISO 200
55mm

Looks good to me. Looks like you were touching up the background, and missed a spot between her right ear, and shoulder.

Checked out the others from that set on Flickr, I really like the side profile one you have of her.

I know that look, LOL! I like it...skin tones a tad warm maybe? I don't know, I have issues about seeing all skin as too orange these days...I think I may need therapy

I have a hard time with skin tones...they look great on my computer at home when I am editing, then I look at it on my work computer and they look ridiculously orange. Need to calibrate I guess.

I have this EXACT same problem. I edited some photos of an event I did and they looked great here at home but I was showing them to someone at work and it looked like they all had spray on tans!!

I like it! I think you did a pretty good job with your lighting. I'd be proud of it if I was you.

actually, the comp works good.. the lightings pretty darn good too...
would you mind sharing what else you used though? for example.. i am finally stepping into doing some "studio" lighting and want to get an economical kit... do you use triggers or a cord? and then the slave.. is that how it worked?

Thanks for the input everyone. As for the equipment used, I have one set of very cheap radio triggers to fire the SB600. I think the brand is Rembrandt and they were about $30 here in Korea. I would definitely recommend spending the money to get something more reliable. Light stand, umbrella head adapter, and white shoot through umbrella for the SB600. The background light was actually a Hanmex SR216 (very old and very cheap), with a built in slave function that just senses another flash and fires.

I find the outside world much more interesting than any studio, so my lighting is small enough to carry with me wherever I go.

Here is a decent place to start looking:
