Default Jack and the Pacifier

Captured this tight portrait of my youngest while cheering on his three sibs at a kids triathlon. Newbie to the DSLR and PP world. First thing I noticed is I missed the eyes and got the pacifier instead. Adjusted the levels in post. Did I take the PP too far?

Appreciate the feedback.

EXIF:

Nikon D5000
Exposure 1/1000
Aperture f/4.5
ISO 720
Focal 102mm

I think the composition of this image is great. The only problem I have is the coloring of the pacifier. Some might like that, but to me it is just a weird color.

You could try a "dodge" at a low exposure and run over his face to brighten up the dark spots rather than just increasing the saturation. I like images really saturated, so I don't think it's too much but some might.

I absolutely LOVE the way you composed the focus of the image to blur the background (not sure the technical term for that!). It puts so much more attention on the subject.

I love the tight crops! I like this photo too, such a sweet little model you got there!

I think the ISO might be too high, it looks a little grainy too me. It could be brightened a bit too. Other than that I like it!

His eyes could be brighter...they are bordering on black holes I struggle with getting eyes lit up too. The blurry part is called depth of field and it's a good thing! It's a cute shot but yeah I might try to tone down that pacifier a bit.
