Default Skin coloring affects iso setting????

IMG_5999

Camera Canon EOS REBEL T1i
Exposure 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 60 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash On, Fired

I do not understand why I needed to adjust the iso on this picture and use the flash and it still did not brighten her face as much. There is that harsh line on her forhead, I think using one of the flash techniques that you mentioned on my other post woul help with that.
Again I am wondering what settings would work better, to get all the details of her beautiful face.

She is a beautiful lady, Try getting close to her face and hold the shutter button half way down to get the right exposure for her. If you do processing with Photoshop 8 there is a guided solution for skin tone, Or try the exposure adjustments in your photo program

Did you take this on a programmed mode? If so, if I'm not mistaken, the flash is used as fill to obtain proper exposure on the subject. How bright do you want her face to be? the skin tone seems to look fine throughout the photo.

Photo shop 8? I need to get that. I do not like to load alot onto my laptop, will photoshop take up alot of space and slow down my computer?

I guess I do not want her skin color to be any brighter, but I could not find a happy medium for getting the brightness I have. I had to use the flash, because without it she was too dark. I tried different iso settings, but as I got to the higher settings it went the opposite and washed out her face. I think I need to invest in a seperate flash and have the flash reflect off of something first.

Default No Flash ISO 400

IMG_5991

Exif data
Camera Canon EOS REBEL T1i
Exposure 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 55 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire

I still feel this is a little dark.

here is no flash, ISO 800

IMG_6050
Exposure 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 109 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire
Orientation Rotate 270 CW
Date and Time (Modified) 2010:08:13 18:41:15
YCbCr Positioning Co-sited
Padding (Binary data 2060 bytes, use -b option to extract)
Exposure Program Manual

I feel like it is brightening the blue in the sweater and not her face.

Do you have an example where the flash wasn't used, along with their settings, that you can post?

ETA: You beat me to it. I'm at work and got side-tracked by my actual work

Yes this was a great candidate for OCF photography.

Based upon your first unflashed, the shutter speed was 1/250 with ISO 400. Decreasing the shutter speed would have allowed more ambient light resulting in a better exposure.

How did you meter for your photos? I probably would have spot-metered off of her face.
