Red face In-lake silhouette

I'm new to photography - still learning how to use my camera and what everything means, so bare with me!

Questions:

1. Is there a good contrast on this photo? (Is it light enough, dark enough, etc??)

2. Should I have photoshopped out some of the waterfun objects in the lake?

3. What else is wrong that I could've improved this shot with? (Again, I'm learning!)

I like this. I think it could stand just a very small bit of brightening (bring up the mid-tones in a curves adjustment). Getting rid of the big object in the water, camera right, could make a better photograph.

This image is on the verge of being very powerful but for two things. First, if we were able to remove the boat and its moorings on the left we would not be able to tell if this boy was in a lake or a swift moving river. That kind of ambiguity would add to the feeling of mystery created by the clouds and dark water.
Second, any time we have a strong compositional line, like the horizon in this image, that is broken by an object, the boy's head, that object takes on special significance in the composition. That's a good thing here, we want to draw attention to the boy. However, we could wish that the line hit him a little lower on his body, closer to his waist. That would have made for a far more powerful image.
Many photographers go through their entire photographic careers shooting everything at eye level and wondering why their images aren't better than they are. That's because very often the best images can be found just a few inches, or a few feet, lower or higher.

I love it. great photo.
the only thing that's a bit bothering is the composition like LeeR said.
