Well, your image is WAY overexposed. Looks like you dragged your shutter @ 1/13. You could run that up to about 1/125 or so and that may have brought the exposure down some.

Also, it looks like your white balance may be off a wee bit, too...

I agree that its just too blown out...

interestingly enough, the composition works as the eyes drawn you in and you also have created a little focus point with the tree leading the eye

maybe try this as a bw and see what may happen there as these colors are just too saturated and not natural

There's nothing wrong with editing a photo. All digital photos have some type of editing done to them; unless taken in RAW and nothing done but saved as jpeg (probably not going to be a good looking photo). Even the camera applies editing to a photo if taken in jpg. So, don't feel bad about editing a photo. Just like in film where darkroom techniques were used and hand retouching, there's nothing wrong with using any editing software program.

if you shot raw, you can fix the exposure. There is some promise to the image but the blow out of the highs makes it unappealing. And unless you are shooting in full manual, the camera will handle the exposure for you. I would suggest putting the camera in Av mode on the dial and see how that works out for you.
