Hi guys, I am a beginner photographer I am new here and since I had a photo shoot yesterday with my model I decided to share. How can i improve or anything wrong with this picture? I just really like the shot that one was the best from all the images I took with this model.
DSC_3631fixed.jpg here I basically returned it back to the original with little editing Last edited by GalArt; 08-17-2010 at 05:07 AM. Reason: learning, need feedback and critique |

The photograph is very good. I liked it. I just feel the door on the left should have been taken out of the frame. rest her lovely eyes, her beautiful hair all is shining out. She would be happy with this shot.

Hi and welcome to DPS.. just keep in mind it'll help us if you follow the posting rules so we can best help you with advice(If needed). The EXIF info is particularly helpful.
First off, welcome and glad to see you posting. You should be happy with this image, especially as a beginner. Lighting looks good and sharpness is also well done. I do have a couple of comments/suggestions. First thing I noticed is the amount of skin smoothing. It's overdone in my opinion. The reason I say that is the work done is obvious. In my view, anytime some processing that is supposed to enhance the image becomes an obvious element of an image, it's gone too far. But I'm biased as I really don't like skin smoothing in general. I'm not a huge fan of the posing and composing. The over the shoulder thing feels a bit posed to me.. it doesn't feel natural. It's just a taste thing, so you didn't do anything wrong, just my opinion. ![]() Also, you placed the subject right in the middle. It feels a bit awkward to me that way. I would have considered putting her in the left side of the frame and let the DoF fading away in the distance draw the viewer. All-in-all, despite my lengthy suggestions, you should be happy. The overall tone and feel of the image is nice.. just tone down the post-processing down a bit and think composition and Rule of Thirds.. Al |

okay, here are a few pointers, things that stick out to me...
1) composition give her more room on the right, less on the left The door: if it is in, make sure it is straight, makes it look less even, easy on the eyes. 2) easy on the PP, her hair is over sharpened, artefacts are only cool when it comes to archaeology 3)WB, it looks a bit cold to me 4) It feels like you flashed her a bit harsh, straight on, I could be wrong (I'm more of the AL guy and thus the light looks kind of icky to me, something is off) Did you flash on camera ? |

BigFuzzy thanks I really appreciate your feedback i think I learn best from that. Yes now I see what I could do better on that picture I will redo the skin smoothing (i think i just played with it for too long so yeah will defentally fix that) I croped the door a little so the image doesnt look in the center no more. But I like the pose though
I guess thats my style but thanks for commenting I am so excited that I am able to learn here from all of you guys and extra opinion is alwasy welcome. Thanks again

Daisho, thanks for your feedback.
yeah i figured that there is something about that door didnt look right. I just croped the door off. I think it looks beeter without it. About the hair sharpenning is it really that noticable the sharpenning? becasue i did use sharpenning hmmm I didnt thought it would be that noticeble so is it bad? I just wanted to be a sharper image. Also yes i did use flash it was directional. |

I'll add my two cents to the overprocessed face and hair. I would do both on a new layer and then lower the opacity until it looks a bit more natural. The wall is fabulous; what a great find though the door needs to go. I'd crop it out, as a matter of fact I think cropping that out will improve the image a great deal. If you know how, a contrast curve would help as well.
