Default my everything

Decided to take some shots of my 3 1/2 month old son Dylan today. I just realized how hard it is to take pictures of babies.... lol. Here is one of my better attempts, just used one strobe coming from above slight camera right. Any critique, comments, or praise will be highly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time

adorable

THIS is what I love to see! It seems to me that you, probably, took your time (after a few shots) and got the one you wanted. This is what people tend to forget. You got your lighting the way you wanted it and took the shot (maybe a few shots but that's the world of photography). I love it and you did a very good shot.

Now, for the bad part; the shot really is good but, do you know what makes it good? Do you know how you made it good? Can you reproduce the shot?

These are the things you need to think about. I'm just trying to help...

Great shot either way!

Thank you so much for the comments... Well I can think of a couple of things that made this one of my favorites. First off the lighting.... very directional with lots of depth, drama, and dimension. That is exactly the feeling I was trying to capture with the lighting. Also the composition because I got down there right at his level keeping it interesting. And last but not least the model... he's an incredibly cute little guy : ) and his expression is priceless.... I studied my shot quite a bit before shooting away... and I'm glad I did
