The weather turned on us quickly and we were left in freezing cold wind with a storm on the way. The sky got pretty dark therefore I lost all my light. I have a speedflash but I'm not great at using it yet so I didn't use it. I have all the same general questions, is the sky over exposed too much? how is the rest of the photo: lighting, composition, white balance, anything else?? Any tips or comments are GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!

I love this shot! Her expression, the sky, her hair...it might be somewhat dark, but I were the mother, I would cherish this photo! I can't give you a lot of critique about the lighting because I'm still learning myself. One thing that I HAVE learned is that each photo is subjective. You can critique them to death, and always strive to get better, but bottom line, if the customer loves it, you've won!

Thank you both for the comments! So I'm curious, now that you have seen what it looked like without the flash, what do you think it looks like with the flash. Better or worse? I don't have a soft box yet (it's on my very long list of things to get) and I'm still learning how to control the output of the speedflash, so does this look too flashy with the flash? I'm just wondering if I should have stuck with the overexposed sky or used a flash? thanks again for any comments!

Personally I like the sky one better. Just because the sky itself is quite interesting, and her hair blowing like that looks great. Is the flash in the second photo on camera or is it off to the right?
