Default Freaky Dancer - noise removal & rubbish or art?

Hi,

I was experimenting in a bar and doing some long exposures to try and get enough light to get a decent image - my ISO was bumped to 1600 (though could go to 3200) and there was something about this image, perhaps that some features are retained, perhaps the self-contained nature of the blur, that attracted me.

I removed some of the noise and now my questions:

- Is this just a rubbish blurred photo? (beauty is in the eye of the beholder)
- Has LR's Noise Reduction routine affected the overall quality of the image (it does seem a little soft)?
- This was shot in JPG. I do now shoot RAW.

I would've considered it for this weeks assignment shot, but it was taken too early and I don't like posting photos in the assignment section if they don't actually qualify for the assignment!

Freaky Dancer.jpg

C&C appreciated.

EXIF:

Camera Nikon D40
Exposure 1.1
Aperture f/10.0
Focal Length 32 mm
ISO Speed 1600
Exposure Bias -1/3 EV
Flash No Flash

Thanks
Tom

I actually like it, it's very interesting movement.
what bothers me though is the white bars and what seems to be an electric outlet in the background.
they are just too distracting and take the eyes of the dancer.

Well because I know it is a double door, with the chap coming through the left hand door, then I can contextualise the right object (the white bands and apparent elctrical outlet) as the other door - the electrical outlet is actually a 'fire escape' sign or something like that.

Do you think then that it would be better to completely omit these in PP, leaving the object in a more surreal environment? Obviously if it is open to interpretation in the manner you have seen it, then the intention of identifying this as a guy coming through a door isn't being met.

Thanks for the comment.

Tom

I don't think anyone will see a door or a guy in the photo, that's why I think you should look at it as an abstract photograph and leave it with a clean background.

+1. Get rid of the door.

Interesting. The kick panel and push plate on the door really bug me though. I'd get rid of them and darken the background quite a bit.
