Default My attempt at Portraits

Hi I am new to photography It started as a hobby but now I want to be really good at it. I am posting here to learn. I am new to processing as well, I am just experimenting on colors, curves, tones until I get what I think is good, I still do not fully understand what they do and still have no idea what is good or what is over or under done.

Sorry no one has answered your post.
As far as the processing goes, it does seem a little cooked to me. His eyes are really dark, and the beard is almost completely blown out.
I would really love to see the original shot to see what you started with.

I do quite like it other than that, however you may want to crop some off the top, so his eyes are closer to the top third of the frame. Also, I noticed on your flickr page that this man had a stick in his hand. It would have been great if you could get that included in the frame as well.

Overall, it's a good first attempt, and you have more guts than me asking strangers to photograph them! Good for you for that!

Thank you, I thought so too that processing was over done. Thank you for looking at my flickr too. The old man did have a stick with him but I made a mistake with that by not including it in the frame properly. I later realized that the stick was almost invisible. I will be more careful next time around when framing my shots.

Thank you for the time I will upload the original soon

Nice subject...biggest issue with the image IMO is there is too much dark...can't really see his eyes.

I did a quick edit...mostly used the shadow/highlight adjustment to add some fill...

@Rlucas my Hard disk crashed and I lost some of my originals with that hard disk. I am very scared to ask people too you never know when some one bigger and stronger might get offended

@Sk66 thank you, I am going through some of the tuts on processing her on DPS. I will soon post photos processed with help from tuts here.

I have one more photo I would like to have comments and critiqued.

I love the photo. I wish the eyes weren't so dark, I think it might give a little more personality to the shot!

The original photo was little over exposed I could not see the items they were selling. I wanted to show that in the frame as well, I could not balance the processing well. I will keep the suggestion in mind for future shots. thank you
