Default Trying out lessons from previous posts....

IMG_8672 1

I have tried to put all my lessons together from dps posts in this image. I over exposed slightly, but I think I have got away with it?

I was particulary looking at the plane of field at the high aperture to keep his face in focus. I think I achieved this.

This is my first time trying to adjust the colours via layers as per Lee's tutorials ( Levels: Getting that professional “Pop” from your photographs « Lucent Design Thank you Lee. I am struggling to find the highlights in Elements 8 if anyone knows how to get them to stay on after you set the back and white extremes in Threshold?) I also tried skin tone adjustment - but for some reason I am rubbish at getting this right.

ALL comments and advice gratefully received.

Camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/320)
Aperture f/1.8
Focal Length 85 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias 0 EV

Agreed - I think the PP work is subtle enough that you don't think it has been worked over which is what I guess you were aiming for.

Can I suggest that the colours are a little washed out though, the slightly pale background and pastel blue shirt, whilst should be complimentary, I'm not sure that they bring out any additional vibrance or pop.

I'm an amateur too though, so feel free to shoot me down.

Tom

LOL I normally go too far the other way, so I held back! Thanks for your comments though guys.

It has been suggested that I have used ghoul lighting (like a torch from under your chin). In fact that will be the case, as it is natural light and reflection off the white bed linen.

I wanted to practice this down shot to get the plane of field right at the high aperture. Could I have done anything to avoid the 7'o clock highlights? (I don't have any reflectors and the little subject was still for a v short time so I doubt I would have been able to position them any way!) If I stood at a different angle could I have improved it? If so, where?
