Default Moody Glamour Shot

Hi guys, wanted to do a "moody" glamour shot. Also, I've been playing around with a wider and tighter 2:1 crop. What do you guys think about the crop and the contrast between dark/glamour? Does it work in this photo?

Full set here.

Exif: canon 10D, 1/250 @f/5.6, ISO 100, 70mm (70-200)

Thanks for your feedback.

Dunno, but I think it would have better if you had cropped show more of the model. And I can't really see that much of the environment so the contrast doesn't have as much impact as it could. Hope that helps.

There is a great deal I like about this image, however, I think that the choice of a white dress for a dark moody image is working against you. Same thing in a black dress would have been a home run.

I can see what you were going for but I can see a few things that don't fit your intended result.
Going for 'moody' with the girl strongly suggests the face is the subject yet her face is pushed way up in the corner and complimentary elements such as her hair are cropped off too much.

It's not about her shoes yet one gets prime real estate. Other elements like her gloves and legs really don't add to the 'moody' intention either. I guess I'm saying your crop is all wrong in my opinion.

What I do like is the perspective you've used. Having her looking up, kinda through her hair definitely does add to the moody feel. I also like the shadows behind her as well and those around her neck and face. They could even be a bit stronger if possible.

In the end I think you've had a much stronger moody shot had you had her wrap her arms around her knees and maybe rest her chin on the knees as well. Then frame her so her face is somewhere near the the rule of thirds perhaps in that corner (let her dark hair add to the contrast) but cut her off somehwere just below the knees. That would have left those nice shadows in the background to aid the moody look you wanted.

Excellent exposure and lighting though ... just needed a better pose and framing/crop I believe.

Thanks for sharing

Yeah I know what you mean. I have other shots that show more of the background. Was hard to choose just one to critique. I kinda feel that the shots work better as a set. I wanted the tight crop to add "tension" to the image. Sorta building on the contrasting theme.

Thanks for the suggestion LeeR. A black dress would probably work better for the intended mood. May I ask what you liked about the image?

@Astro: Great suggestions. Posing is not something I'm particularly strong with and definitely need work on. I like your posing suggestion. Boy wish I could re-do this shot again.

Thanks guys for your critiques.
