Default A test shot with new Bees

I just got the new monolights and was putting them together when this little fellow climbed by modelling stool. So i took a quick shot. Smoothed the image a bit by noise reduction and then resized. No additional post processing. Setup: a softbox camera left, beauty dish camera right, a stripbox for the hair light. Camera - Canon 7D, Lens - Canon 24-105L.

shutter: 1/200
f/8
ISO100

oops, sorry , will post EXIF when I get back home. Regarding my specific question -what would you do differently with these lights to improve the image (skin tones, more shadows, less fill, more hair light?) Personally, I think the face got too much fill, so it looks a bit flat.

Thanks!

Skin tones are going to depend on getting your white balance correct. It looks pretty good right now, but my eye is seeing him a little on the cool side (that's on my uncalibrated monitor, mind you). I would try a slightly warmer white balance. The hair light looks good; I wouldn't change that. I do agree that your fill light is a little strong, though.

Great start, and keep at it!

+1. I'm not wild about the centered catchlights either, I prefer them at either the 10:00 or 2:00 position on the iris. That's just a nitpick though.

Thanks for the comments! I knew something was bugging me about the eyes, but could not quite pinpoint it. Yes, the centered catchlights have to go. Next time need to make sure he is not looking at the dish.

Will need to work on the skintones and a better balance of the main/fill lights. Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it!
