My wonderful daughter (The resizing had a negative impact on the sharpness of the photo)

1/320 s
f1.8
50mm
ISO 250

my question is - the focus is somewhat off the mark - does it work anyway?

you seem to be missing both your EXIF and also a specific point you would like critique on.

overall, i like the dark, desaturated tone of the image, and also the DoF. Was this lit using a window?

Oh I am sorry *embarrassed* (will edit the first post)

It was indeed window lighting.

It appears as though the focus fell on her shawl, leaving it sharp while her eyes are quite soft. I do like the side lighting but wish more light was in her eyes.

Beautiful girl!

Window light was always a favorite among painters, especially a North facing window. These days photographers spend a great deal of time and effort, not to mention money, trying to duplicate that beautiful light. There may be some very minor improvements that could be amde to this image, but the lighitng is wonderful and that is always a great start.
