Default Decent Angle

Was just wondering if this is an eye pleasing angle/crop.

The more I stare at it, the more I think I should have allowed more of her upper body to show...

Data:

50mm (nifty fifty for the win!)
1/80
f8
iso 200
flash fired (off camera flash)

I like the shot but right now there is too much dead space around your lovely model. I would crop the dark band off the top and take some of the sky-line and water off the left side.

Ya i thought of that too...I took a 2nd shot and composed it where the dark band above (the lower part of bridge) is out of the way:

But there is still the issue of "dead space" what if i cropped it?....and now i look at this one and see the horizon is a lil' skewed! lol.

I wouldn't worry about the horizon (if it were a landscape I would.) I would crop it to a square or portrait, whatever looks best.

First off, nice lighting and exposure. Way to go getting your flash off camera.

To me, yeah, i think you should have shown a bit more of her, but it's not so bad.

The thing that bugged me is her pose/face... and by that I mean how forced the pose looks. To me it doesn't feel so natural, she feels as if she's really trying to have a specific look.

She's very pretty, it just would have been nicer (for me) to see her more relaxed looking.

Keep the composition as it is, and keep her on the far right of the frame.

Nice exposure and (UGH!) as Fuzzy said, nice ocf work.

The pose looks weird to me though. Almost as if when you directed her you said "remember that mannequin in the store front in Macy's? give me that look! yeah, c'mon, give me that robot expression!"

I kid, but that was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. She looks emotionless, or as if you caught her staring off into space thinking about what was for dinner tonight..

lmao mannequin from macys! well hells bells, doesn't all models exude some kind of mannequin-esque vibe?

I suppose she does have a vacant look on her face...but its wasnt forced. I guess it was the whole "there is a camera pointing at me but im going to try to look natural..as if caught off guard..but in a pleasing way"

Ya I prefer a more relaxed "photojournalistic" feel to it...but shes young and aspiring to be a model..so she believes she'll have to pose and try to look glamorous. I took a number of photos of her..some of which she'd like to send to some of the agencies...this being one of them.

I really appreciate the advice!

My blinding jealousy over the fact that you live in the Centre of the Universe and My Favourite Place On Earth prevents me from commenting.

Oh all right. I'd crop to portrait, maybe even Photoshop a new background (i.e. a neutral one) in there.

you like nyc recurrent? you are MORE than welcome to trade places with me...i cant stand nyc lol..i was born and raised here and now its time to get the heck out!

I dunno if i can photoshop a new background to the picture...i think the background is fine..during composition..i was just making sure nothing was growing out of her head (a pole, tree, branch...a hand) the most i can as far as backgrounds is replace the sky heh
