Default Beautiful Boy

Picasa Web Albums - Melanie Hodder - Pictures

Does this photo need any post processing?
Is the depth of field too great?
Is the focus any good?

EXIF data: 800iso 50m prime lens 1.8f 450D Canon

He IS a beautiful boy!!! Love the depth of field, but the focus seems to be on his hat rather than his eyes.

Do the photo again and put the focus on the eyes.
With such a beautiful boy you'll definitely have a magnificent picture!

like ronald and susan said - focus... it's a shame because it's a beautifull photo.

DOF is far too thin, even if the eyes were in focus, the rest would be out. (althoug it would be better)

Online Depth of Field Calculator

A 50mm @ f1.8 on a 1.6 camera, at 3ft gives you a sliver of focus of only 3cm (1 inch) There is absolutely no room for error or even the slightest movement

The best way to "Aim" you focus is to preselect the AF point in your camera.
Your 450D has 9 options (those little dots that go red in the view finder)
Frame your image with the selected point on his eye and then see the difference.

(check the manual if you dont know how to select it)
