Default Girl on Stairs

Are the patches in her jeans and the position of her feet a distraction?

Kinda..but it does not make the picture bad by any means..The colors are great..I would suggest a crop..maybe above her knees..and see what looks good to you..You obviously have a great eye..and she has some flexible feet. Thanks for sharing!

I quite like it. Yeah, the jeans and feet attract attention, but I think it's a good thing.

The overall feel is very relaxed and natural, which I think is good. The feet give it a bit of a quirky young feel.. if that makes any sense. I think this is one of those times that dead-center framing works. I like your DoF/Bokeh use

Personally I would have tried (depending on how many steps there were) to leave more steps either in front or behind her.. just to try. I'm not saying it would have been better, but maybe just different enough.

In the end, I think she'll like it. It's nice, nothing striking, but in the vein of a modern, natural, young/hip style of photo which many people here can't get.

Kind of... I agree with what hmcgrael said, I would suggest a crop as well.
I like how the depth of field is displayed in the background on the top of the photo. I'd try to incorporate that in the shot

While there might be "better" crops, I'd avoid taking out either the holes in her jeans or her feet. I don't think you were going for a serious portrait and those two quirky items give a hint to her personality. At least that's how it feels to me. I also like your currrent crop; the regularity of the steps and the "formality" of the center placement are mocked by the model's smile, tattered jeans and very informal pose.

I like it a lot.

Default color

Hi, when I look at this pic, I see the top 1/2 of the pic has a lot of red in it. Red stairs, red hair, red shirt, and pink skin... The bottom half features the blue jeans, the stairs don't look as red and the skin tone is whiter... The holy jeans don't bother me at all. The colors in the overall picture do. The pic is top heavy with red and the bottem half is cooler and more faded out. Something about that is not right to me. Plus it seems the picture is cut in half top and bottom halves... She is very casual looking, but the stairs are bricks - and what bricks symbolize is not casual to me... I guess I just don't like this red background with her red/pink coloring...to sum up, i would say the background is not right for her.

Don't crop! The jeans and feet maybe make the photo a bit "busier" than you were looking for, but cropping off her knees/feet will make it super awkward. She doesn't have the facial expression in this shot to be just torso/head shot, and besides, the photo is so well proportioned! It is quirky and fun.

I don't agree about the red in the comment above, I don't think it's a bad color for her at all. Maybe also experiment with a blue-ish background too to bring out her eyes, they look like they could turn very vivid with the right color around them.

definitely don't worry about the feet and jeans.

i'd get her out of center frame however, and as Fuzzy said (de ja vu?) if you have the ability either place her at the top or bottom of a long crop with more steps above, or below her.

maybe its how the laptop is sitting on my knees, but the steps look to be slightly off of horizontal. i'd get some gridlines over it and check it out. probably my eyes, but twice now looking at it i've picked it up.

Are we long lost photo brothers? Seems you agree with me a lot, and I never find anything to disagree with with your comments..

Yeah, to reiterate, I love the jeans and feet.. adds something different to the image.. else it'd be something boring photographers would take (not much offense intended! )
