Default B&W, Shallow (?) Depth of Field Shot

Hello fellow camera-files!

Photo taken on Canon 350D, EF f/1.8 50 mm lens.

Mikey watching over Alex

Took as jpeg, adjusted the tone curve.

Suggestion on how the shot could be improved?

i think it's a beautiful shot. the only thing I would suggest next time is keeping the focus on the object's eyes.
in this photo the focus is on the hand in his mouth. naturally the observer eyes are drawn to the object's eyes which are a bit out of focus.

I love the relationship you've caught between both of them. Great work on that. I'm just a new member, but from looking at it, it looks split in half making it feel as if you have to look at two photos. I would possibly have got more of the baby, and less of the second child's hair. And it's very one dimensional with having the second child on exactly the same level on the material. Possibly a different angle when taking the photo? And agreed with Mr Jones comment. Still a great photo. I love how you've done it.
