Default Despondent woman

This was taken around half a year ago when I first started getting interested in photography. Would love comments on composition and lighting. Is it too dark or does it suit the mood? Generally the rule of thirds applies...this doesn't follow that - does it still work? Comments appreciated

I would have added a lot more contrast to the photo while adding a little brightness.
plus, try cropping the photo to put the woman more to the left and not right in the center of the photo... it makes it more interesting.

that is of course my opinion, someone else might think differently.

It is too dark though perhaps not in the way you think. Normally, even if we want the image to have a dark and somber look, we also want to use the full range of tonality from black to white with all the grays in between. In your image you have nothing that is pure white, which means you need to do a levels adjustment, That doesn't mean your image will turn bright and sunny, this can be done while maintaining the mood of the image, but I think you will agree that it is an improvement.

What LeeR said.... lol

It has a lot of nice elements and I understand the intent, but right now it is living in a narrow band of gray tones. Not sure if that is lighting or technique.
