Default Valentine's Day Photo

Hi, I am new around here, so I hope I am not out of line asking for a critique this early.

I don't have any special gear, is there any kind of lighting techniques I could use on the cheap that would have improved this?
Fr: Izzy - To:Mommy (by Lloyd Zeffler Photography)

Any other input would be invaluable to me. Thanks.

Edit: EXIF Info

Shutter speed: 1/160s
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 18mm
ISO: 400

Hi Zane,

You need to resize your pic a little - 600px on the widest side I think is the rule around here I do have a few tips for you, but if you could post your EXIF data first it might help.

Thanks!

Sorry about that, should be fixed now. I actually do not know what EXIF data is. I took this photo with a Canon EOS 6.3 Rebel, stock lens.

I've added the exif for you. It's basically the info about your shutter speed, ISO, and aperture that people would like to know. Also if you've used a flash or not.

Also don't forget that Flickr requires you to link back to Flickr when you post a picture from there. Use the text that's in the first box (the really long text) and just paste all of that into your post. The forum knows how to make it work. Of course, it also helps because Flickr displays your exif and if we can easily get back to your flickr page we can see it.

Welcome to the forums!

Edit: Oh yeah, that is a very cute and creative picture. For extra lighting I'd recommend reading some stuff on Photodoto or DIYPhotography because they often have DIY Lighting projects.

Anyway, I like the shot and even the comp despite it being centred.
Your white balance is a little cool I would think based on the white shirt. The pic looks a bit dark too, but not too much and I think it does kind of suit the style of shot. Would have been fabulous if he was looking, but I know how hard that can be! Other than that a great shot!

Thanks for the help.

I actually liked that he wasn't looking. he was acting a little shy which I think added to the picture. He is usually pretty hammy.
