Think of this as an artist keeping in mind the fact that where you place certain things in an image and how they are treated not only gives us information but also has the potential to create a feeling. Generally, having someone look out of the frame can create a feeling of pensive thought. Obscuring parts of the face, especially the eyes, creates a feeling of mystery. So how do all of elements in this image balance out? It's not bad, though the blown out highlights are a bit troubling, but I don't feel like all of the pieces are wworking together to create a unified feeling. But these things take time to perfect (decades, usually) and you are off to a good start, so keep trying; you'll quickly get better.

I actually like this shot...breaks a couple "rules", but it works for me. My biggest negative is the hot spots ruin the feel of the antiqued b/w treatment.

I really like this. No. Really.
On the hotspots... yes, I gotta agree with the others, they are the only bad thing I can see. If you shot this in RAW, you may be able to pull them back. If you can, do it and be very very happy with this image. |
