Hi
I was thinking what could make the shot better was if you focused on the boyes eyes instead of the arm. The boy seems like a more interesting subject and it would also have added emotion if you could see his facial expression clearly. My eye kept wanting to go to the boys face. if you wanted to add mystery to the shot or make it seem as if he was hiding, I think focusing on him wouldn't have subtracted from that.

I like the fact that you tried to do something different.. ie focus on the arm as opposed to the boy, but to be honest, I just don't get it.
Selective focus is normally used to draw attention to a specific part of the image, and I'm not sure why we should look at the arm more than anything else. The arm and shoulder hold no interest for me. like others have said here, I think the image might have a had a lot more impact if the face/eyes had been in focus. It would have created (for me at least) a lot of questions about why the boy is back there. Furthermore, it seems to me that the arm isn't even as sharp as it could be. Is this a crop of a larger image? My eyes are drawn to the brightest part of the image, which is the bright part of the shoulder. Again, I do appreciate the effort to do something different, it just doesn't work for me. |
