Default Time for an updated picture

My brother-in-law has been in Afghanistan since 2 days before Christmas. He recently got home for his leave and his wife wanted some updated pictures of the 2 of them---so we had an improptu photo shoot in the back yard. I had just gotten my 1st reflector in and was able to give it a shot. So the reflector was camera right.

How could this shot have been improved?

nice catchlights. they appear to be squinting, i'm sure someone else will point it out, but i don't really care about it.

nice tight composition and no major elements in the background to distract, decent separation from it, i might have tried for more though.

how close was the reflector to the models? It appears the sun is directly behind them.

The sun was directly behind them----the reflector was about 10-12 feet away. Should I have done something different with the reflector?

You are right---more separation would have looked better. Thanks for the feedback!
