Default Mid-Day portrait critique

Hi,

I am very new to photography, this is was first real attempt at mid day portrait, it is a same shot I submitted to the weekly assignment. Overall I am happy with the shot but it seems throughout all my photos I seem to position the subjects either on the right or the left of frame. I am trying to follow the rule of thirds but it doesn't seem to work in all cases.

Please give me as much feedback as possible, it is greatly appreciated.

Maybe you could leave more space on the side towards where the person is looking. This, in my opinion, makes the photos more interesting. However, maybe someone with more experience can help you a bit more.

That was my first thought also, if the subject is not looking at the camera then have them looking 'into' the picture rather than out of it.
I like the lighting of the subject, no blown out highlights, looks good!
TFS!

My comments:

The photo has good exposure. The background is busy.
The subject looks relaxed.

Thank you for your comments, so the busy background is bad?
I kinda liked the idea if girls looking the other way, but it seems something is missing.

I would agree that you need him to be on the left third. The girl is pretty much irrelivant to this picture because she is so out of focus that it really doesn't matter. The busy background I don't think would be that big of a deal if he were in the "right" place.
