Default Bass Face.

Evening all

I went over to a friends place as he asked me to take some publicty shots for him (he plays double bass) and these are one of the results. I like the geniune smile and the sunlight playing of the wall is a nice addition tho i feel it is slightly over blown. C&C welcome

I don't think it's too blown at all. There are better shots from this set on your Flickr, but I agree with you that the smile is nice here. I also like the lines created by the hand and bass being the parts of the shot in focus. Having looked at the color in all these pics I think the whole set lends itself well to black and white.

The blowouts in this look great in a BW version:

Just a thought. I think he should be pretty havppy with them though!

Thanks for your input I do agree with the black and white comment, though i dont want to "over do it" with the B&W. I think for me, my favourite shot is this one...

I altered the the shadows slighty and gave it a "retro" look.

I liked the other reflection one where he was in focus and the reflection wasn't, behind him. I think if you want the retro look something with warmer tones would be more flattering to him possibly? That looks quite green.

I think the composition of the first pic is balanced, do not be concerned about the overblown wall, you should be more concerned about the exposure of the subject (the face or the bass) which is fine.
but I'd like to comment on the focus of the picture, If you intended to capture the genuine smile then the focus should have been on the face, but I do give more importance to moments than focus so I guess its ok, just be conscious of it next time
