Default Newborn - Hanging around

This is an image I took a couple of months ago.

I have had mixed reactions from people - some say they love it, while others have flamed it for being pro abortion (which it is not). It is simply a newborn sleeping in organza fabric.

I decided on black for both the organza and the backdrop to try and create a seamless effect.

I would really like to know what you feel about the over all effect of the image, and if it can be improved in any way.

Thank you for taking the time to look!

My initial reaction as a Mum is that I love it.

It made me think - ahhh and only a few days ago that is what baby looked like inside Mummy.

Looking back to see where the negative comments have come from, I could start to see a negative side (there is art for you!)

I am not a photographer, so I don't know how it would affect the look, but; psychologically is it the black organza being linked to a bin liner causing the negative thoughts? Would a soft pink or white - (womb like) on a white background remove the negative connotations and re link to pure and newborn????

Hi Nicola

Thanks for the feedback, that is exactly what I am looking for. I have played around with the color a little before this with white organza fabric and black BG, and I really didn't like it.
I think your idea of a softer colour organza and maybe a similar coloured BG could work really well! I will try that with my next newborn shoot.

You are 100% correct that the organza is linked in people's minds to a rubbish bag. Perhaps I will try and find an organza that does not have a shine to it, that may help a little too.

Thank you

I don't get the pro-abortion thing at all. I see a lovely photo that a mom would love.

I think it's a beautiful photo. I don't see anything negative about it. I suppose if I sat here and stared at it long enough, I could.

I definitely didn't think pro-abortion, but these images aren't my particular taste. I find them a bit creepy. However, I will say that the execution of the photograph (regardless of my personal taste for this style) is wonderful.

I think it is fabulous, and gives the feeling of a newborn still within the womb. very quiet and protective.
Those that try to find their personal politics or life positions in a photo need to relax with it.

I've seen a lot of these types of shots & they're usually a white, or at least a lighter colour - which gives it more of an innocent feel...

The composition of your shot is just gorgeous though, but I just think the black gives it a negative feel to it. I think newborn shots need to be all about the purity & innocence of the newborn....
