Default Kata Silhouette

This is a self portrait I took for the 52 Weeks group on Flickr. I basically froze at certain points in a karate kata and snapped this pic. I'm happy with it given I had to set it up to fire myself, but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas of composition.

No flash, 1/1000 of a second, aperture f/8. Complete exif info here. I shot this a while ago, so I don't recall whether I put the camera in program mode or left it on full auto.

Thanks,
Mike

Love the colors and love the silhouette. I do find the fence distracting I'm afraid, I think a silhouette shot needs to have very few bold lines in it like that.

MikeOliveri,

Imagine the dynamic difference if you were shown full figure, on a boulder (silhouette, could be big crate with tarp draped over it), or a tree stump, shot in portrait? With very little detail, every small detail becomes much more important. Landscape orientation is calm; here you could be saying 'guess what I have in my hand.'

Thanks for the advice, guys! I appreciate it. The fence has been hit and miss -- some don't mind it, some it distracts. I'm going to reshoot this season at a new location, and I think I'll take jiminy's advice to do full figure to boot. I hadn't thought of that.

Mike

I just took about 5 minutes in PS and cloned the fence out. I bet if you wanted you could do it more carefully. But it lets you know which way you like it better.

I am with JC though, full body portrait will be more dymanic.
