I actually quite like this image. I rarely comment on kids photos because I don't like them and the cheesey factor you see so often.

This, on the other hand, feels more like a portrait I would take, ie not posed natural looking portrait. I like that. A lot.

I like that you left space to the left in the direction he was looking instead of centering.

I like the DoF which focuses the image on him.
The only thing I'd say is that it feels a bit flat, so boost the contrast and see what you think. If you have LR, try using the "Clarity" setting, I think that's a better solution than actually using "Contrast"

otherwise, this is a very nice natural child photograph, I'm not used to saying that!
