I was firing off some shots this morning while the kids mucked around with some craft. The little fella just picked up the roll of sticky tape and I snapped a couple off. Shot in mono then adjustments in LR to contrast and a few other little bits and pieces finished with a letterbox. What do you think?

Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Exposure: 0.033 sec (1/30)
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 60 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

I just love how his eye is so clear!!!!! I would be so tempted to lighten up his eye again though, dodge and burn are your friends.... but not too heavy or it looks fake.. I would just love to see a little texture and brightness to the iris!

Love the shot though, it's fantastic!

Fair enuff.

(1) Is this is right kind of composition for a letterbox?
(2) Could the contrast be darker?
(3) Should I crop it tighter to include the little fella only?

If you could get your subject to hold that pose I would try to get a vertical shot of this. Place subject off to one side or the other. Because your son is doing something very interesting I would frame just him. Exposure is good, Contrast is a very subjective judgment, Make a copy of the image and try different contrast settings. Then choose which one you like.

Since you are shooting a 5D mark II, start shooting RAW and not jpg. You have a greater exposure latitude shooting RAW and have much more creative control. And re-editing jpg images will lower image quality.

Thanks

Joe
