I like this. And I can't think of much you could do to improve it!
Intriging title, nice use of depth-of-field and the incompletness of the guy in the background all contribute to tell the story. Great work! The red shirt does compete for attention a little - try this in black & white. It's almost always a good choice for street candid's like this.

The partial view of the guys head in the background totally takes away from the girl. I'd try a closer crop to get rid of it

I would also have tried a vertical shot. The edge of the post and red shirt guy is distracting. You want to focus on the girl. The image is rather flat. You need to start looking at putting just a bit of shadow falloff in you images. The way to maintain 3 dimensional shape in your subjects is to control the brightness and shadows of the subject.
Get yourself a piece of white card stock or some white foam core and use this as a fill reflector. The white fill card will reflect some soft light on on side of your subjects face. Or use a piece of black foam core on the left side of your model as a negative fill, (used to absorb light and create shadows). Start thinking in 3D and use light creatively. Thanks Joe

+1 for not getting rid of the guy. With this title it's a key to the situation. If he's not there, its just an awkward looking girl standing awkwardly by a wall.
I do however agree that it would be better done in black and white, with a punch to the contrast to add a little drama. Tweak curves a little and boost the contrast after a BW conversion. |

I disagree. The guy is cropped out enough where it leaves nothing of him to wonder about. You cant see any of his face and there is a big black thing on his back that is also int he way. Now, the girl on the other hand, if he were cropped out would leave a whole new realm of stories and wonderment left to the imagination.I dont feel she would awkward at all. In fact I think it would enhance her beauty by making her the sole focal point of the image!
Thats the great thing about art, we all see different modes, different stories.
