any technical critique would be helpful but would like to know your initial impressions of this pic is it boring or does it hold some interest?

This shot has a lot of potential. Did you intend to go for a monochromatic look? Did you intend to include the post in the water?

Try shooting this shot from different angles and slightly tighter and see which composition looks better to you.

I like the sail boats and the horizon in the image. This would be a good B&W image, since the sky looks pretty overcast. Also try framing your subjects off to one side or the other. Then you have to ask yourself do I want to have the post play a balance within the image or not. Look at the rule of thirds.

Also have the models standing for a few shots.

Try to visualize what the camera will see. Start to pre-visualize your shots before you take them, The camera will see them differently than you will. The more you start to see like your camera the better you can control the creative process.

Thanks

Joe

I agree that this shot has quite a lot of potential.

What I don't like about it is that wooden pole type of thing that is sticking up out of the water! I find it distracting, and you may want to try cloning it out.

You may also want to try a little extra vignetting, and maybe a warming filter - or a sepia filter. I think those may make this photo really look great!

Hi Joe many thanks for your comments.
I did infact include the post purposly as i thought that it did help to balance out the pic.
The pic is neither mono nor color but a hybrid i tried it in b&w and color respectively but liked the mix much better, have to admit the sail boats in the distance were pure fluke and a good one i think.
Many thanks again Dan

I do like the photo - here is my take on it, if you want me to take it down, I will.

not mine

All I did was adjust the levels and sharpened for the web.

sharpening for the web is different that regular sharpening. The web " sees" things differently than our eyes do- plus I use 500x333 for the dimentions...

yuppers - you resize the image and then sharpen. If you go to deviantART: where ART meets application! you can search for a free action
