Taking candid photos of my son for practice.

Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 33 mm
ISO Speed: 400

Any suggestions? Should I have cropped differently. I liked the hands being out of focus, but is it too much?

I like the hands too, and his placement is good.

The photo is underexposed. His eyes are what I call "black holes", so far in shadow that you can't see them. Bump up your levels, and bring his eyes up and you've got one cute picture!

Just FYI, the next time you do this, try to use a small bit of fill flash. It will balance him against the sky so they are both exposed correctly.

I also like the hands being out of focus, but think it is too much. Can it be sharpened?

Thanks for the comments, I will try increasing the exposure in lightroom.

I didn't think of using fill flash, most of the shots weren't into the air like this one. Do think the pop-up flash would've been sufficient? I have an 580ex ii, but it is kind of big for running around outside.

I happened take a similar photo last night, this time with fill flash and no hands extended. (My son was a little less wild.) I think the photo was much better this time, thanks for the ideas.
