Default Baby boy and his blue eyes

This is a photo of my best friends 7 month old son. This is the first people photography I have done. I know the background is really cluttered, but any other thoughts on the photo?

This is a very cute shot! I don't think the background distracts too much as the child dominates the frame. My only suggestion would be to stand back and zoom in closer to avoid making his face look so wide. Taking a shot with the camera close to your subject widens your angle of view and distorts the subject's face. While this can be used creatively to your advantage, I think it distracts a little in this shot. But you captured the beauty and awe of a child and I like how well lit his eyes are.

Default Head and Shoulders shot

Try croping it so it is a head and shoulders shot. This could look a lot better.

Yeah, crop it to a square format, would make it really in your face

Cute little boy! The background is very distracting (which you noted), but with a vertical crop, placing the boy's right eye (camera left) on the upper third intersection should clean it up easily.

What a cutie!

I will---I can't edit it at work---so I will try when I get home this afternoon---I really appreciate the help. I think it will make a big difference. Now I feel dumb for not thinking of that sooner
