Sharp portrait.. it looks as if the bg was blurred in PP using selections tools as you can spot it at the edges, correct me if im wrong .. The colors a bit off causing your face to look a bit green, Excellent exposure, no distracting shadows and the brick as a background is good. I'd suggest using a longer focal length..(min 50mm) would be better and standing further from the wall, would blurr out the bg beter and it also avoids hard shadows.. The facial expression looks natural, calm and relaxed.

Thanks. You pretty much nailed it....I blurred in PP because I was standing too close to the wall. I hate doing that, but I did the portrait too quickly as I needed it for something. I meant to ask, I cropped it quite a bit and I'm wondering if I over-sharpened it. Most people sharpen their photos in PP right? I'm assuming most are not quite as sharp as they need to be coming SOOC. Am I right?
Thanks again for the input!! |

I dont think it's over sharpened. it looks fine. SOOC sharpness depends on the lens that you are using (some high end lens are so good that there's minimal PP sharpening or none is necessary).... I like to use my 50mm prime... its the sharpest one that i have, and sometimes if i get lucky, i don't need to sharpen it any more. That being considering the correct aperture, lighting conditions and shutter's speed is met... Sharpening during PP is done by a lot of people, I just take care not to create some weird halo effect during sharpening..

The second one is much better! The green tone in the first one is very noticeable. It's also a more of a feminine pose with the head tilt. The second one has better white balance and a more masculine pose.
