Hello this is my 2nd attempt to do portrait. My son is my model.
EXIF: ISO: 100 Aperture: f/4 Shutter:1/50 Lens: 50mm Time of the day: Morning Flash: Not fired: Tripod: Did not use Post Processing: Adobe Photoshop II Specifi questions: How is the exposure and composition? How is the colour and sharpness? What could I do to improve this? Thank you. P.S. Still practising portrait shoots.

I agree w RLucas on the background table and the arm chair...
but.. in regards to your question on the colors, .. I think that maybe a little too drab and even in the yellow in the shirt seems.. blah... Maybe doing a little post processing to get rid of the background and maybe some treatments in contrasts and levels Keep shooting

Thanks for the comments. Yah I used gaussian blur to try to get the distractions in the background, edited using layer mask to bring some of the original picture back. It wasnt my intention for the colour balance, i might tweak the temperature and try. il shoot again and remove that table
![]() Superdan: Thanks for your opinion too. I will try to edit again the colour.

I like its composition. You followed the rule of thirds perfectly. The use of negative space on the right area of the photo is fine with me; there is enough DoF to blur the background anyway.
The armrest of the chair appears to be more in focus and sharper than the subject. The color is a bit dreary yet your son seems to be quite happy with his toy. Perhaps shooting during the golden hours will do the trick or some color adjustments in your raw file.
