Hi. I would have to say this would be more classified as a snapshot rather than a family portrait. Only because of the composition and what they are wearing. The infant is wearing a onesie which is like he or she is not even fully dressed. The father wearing a T-shirt also seems a little too casual. The flower in the backround is not in a good spot. Looks like it is growing out of the head. Thats just my opinion and I hope it is more helpful than hurtful.

Hi lavitz, thanks for your suggestion on my photo, here's my thoughts, the yellow flower on top of the lady's head is a bit distracted and i would like to see baby's whole feet, if you back off a little bit, you might be able to include the lady's left arm in the frame as well....

but it is a nice family portrait, the ppl's skin look soft and natural, and the best part is the face expression on everyone is great! so well done! good job!!!

It is indeed helpful, I also agree about the flower in the background is not really a good spot, it is distract the main object...

I find the flower quite distracting too. And I also find it a bit more of a snapshot, purely because of what they're wearing. Have no problem with the pose, but what would turn it from a snapshot to a family portrait would be if they were all dressed a bit better. The dad is fine & if the baby had jeans on too, that would be good. We have some lovely shots from when my son was 6mths old and all 3 of us are wearing white tops & jeans.

I don't think family portraits need to be too formal - it's often better to capture the more candid shots of mum & dad playing with baby etc... but they need to be dressed more suitably to tie them all in together.

I hope that makes sense?

Default Framing and flowers

Like others have said - backing off on the framing would allow the feet and womans left arm to be in frame. The flower and green shoot would have been better moved to a different position. Lighting is smooth and even. Due to the closness this may have been hard but the background going a little out of focus would have pulled your attention to the family a little more.
