She's a little too centered, and I think cropping off some of the top and left side would help the composition, and her skin tones need a little warming up. I did a quick play in photoshop of the above and liked the look of it much better. Nice shot though

I can honestly say that I really like this photo. Her skin tones look fine to me, but that is just my taste. I like the way there is a little back light illuminating her hair in just the right place.

The only thing that really bugs me about this, is the shrubbery. It add nothing to the composition. I would crop it out. Yeah, it would center her more in the frame, but it works for me, since she is looking straight on to begin with.

I tried that crop also, but done that way it was just too centered for my taste. I'm not crazy about the shrubs either, but other than either of the two crops mentioned the only other one would be a portrait crop, and I also wasn't crazy about that version. Are you using a calibrated monitor Luke?..skin tones look a little blue/green on my calibrated monitor

You are right on her being a little too centered. So what I didn't do too well on this is the rule of thirds? In most other photos I try not to center the individual, but in this one I did a bit.

Thanks!! I'm going to try cropping out the shrubbery to see how it looks.

Here is a new image with the shrubbery cropped out. What do you think of this version? Yes it's a bit centered, more so then I'd normally like, but I love this photo even so.

No, it is not calibrated (not technically anyway). This morning with fresh eyes, it does look a little cool, but not by much. This one will be real easy to warm too much for my taste.

It does look better with the shrubs cropped, but now that I have looked at it again, you might want to try square cropping instead of portrait orientation. It will put her right eye (camera left) back in to the top left thirds intersect.

I like the newer crop better. I also agree since it's so centered, might as well make it a square crop.

I also agree that it's a bit 'cold' and it's because you were in the shade (right?). Slightly warming it would be good. Since you're using the LR beta, try boosting the Vibrance a bit.. won't do the skin tones too much, but warm it up in general a bit.. maybe.. hehe. If not, use the temp slider near the top just a tad towards warm.

It's a nice fun photo and she/the parent will be happy with it.

Personally, I'd play more with the colors to do something different. I'd try to cross process it a bit or something like that. But that's just me..

I like the new crop....draws your eye more to the subject then the green shrubs....

her skin tones look fine to me on my monitor but would be interested in seeing it warmed up like suggested just to see the difference.

only thing I'm not a fan of are her earrings! wowsers, those are big ones!
