Default treedom...

as trying to get into portrait work... i am reluctantly taking my own... to start...
heres one i really like from the other day...

is my comp good?
does the PP work well on this?

treedom
Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture: f/4.8
Focal Length: 116 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: +1/3 EV
PP: Vignette, Color Work

To me, i would've liked to get rid of more background, but currently limited before making the jump into a faster lens, and didnt want to do too much PP work to completely out of focus the back....

as always, thanks for looking and any comments are appreciated

Dan I like your PP, the background is not really distracting either because the subject is sharp and has a good focus. It has a good exposure too. Composition, the subject is situated in the right third which looks good however for me i would like to see the other hand of the subject.

I am ok with the processing on this photo, I am not ok with his pose. For me, I try to avoid crotch shots.

Exactly. Try to be careful not to cut off things like hands/feet/etc too close to the wrist/ankle. It looks kinda strange that way. If you can't get the hand in, try and crop it out higher up the arm. In this case, that would mess up the legs though.

Nothing wrong with the photo other than that as far as I can tell.

Agreed with previous posters - I don't mind the processing at all, but the limb chops and crotch shot aren't working for me. Not a huge fan of the tilt in this one, either. Your focus and exposure look really good though.

only thing i'll add is that the vignette is a bit off to me, especially the gradient its producing on the left side of the image. did you make the vignette, or was this PP using an action? reason i ask (and dont get me wrong, i am a huge fan of vignetting) is that i have a couple of actions i love, but sometimes they'll produce a 'spotlight' type effect, rather than a gradual fade on the edges...

did it pp... i tried to use an action but you are right.. it was giving a spotlight or darkening too much... just did this with a brush... think was set at like 45some percent opacity?... i need to start writing down exactly what i do...
