What an adorable baby! Your focus looks soft in both of them. I would try closing up your aperture a little bit more, maybe to 2.5. And be sure to focus on the baby's eyes. When shooting indoors it can be hard to get really sharp focus and proper exposure unless you have great light coming into the room from outside. Keep shooting! You have a cute subject!

You can still get pretty sharp pics at 1.8. The first, it seems like the focus fell on the woman's hand instead of the baby's face (eyes)

I cannot see where the focus fell on the second pic, the whole image is a bit soft, but soooooooooo cute and well executed.

And like PP sd, beautiful subject and looking forward to seeing more.

I agree with the comments already stated. On the first pic looks like you're misfocussed on the woman's hand. As far as composition on the first, baby in the middle with a bland empty space with two different backgrounds leaves something to be desired.. I would have cropped a portrait orientation of just the lil tyke and mom's hand. Other than that looks like it'd be an adorable shot.

Second shot, as well is improper focus. I would have stopped down to 2.8 on this one... reason for that number is that 2.8 is the aperture with that lens (I found when I had it at least; I've upgraded to the 1.4 and find the same findings for that lens also) is that 2.8 is when the lens loses its softness and starts to show you sharpness and IQ that is so amazing for the $100 it costs. Also with the main subject so close to the lens, you will still retain a nice DOF and quite nice OOF background. As for composition, I quite like it. I love the happy massive grin on the lady (mom?) in the background and baby's face is just stunning haha. I maybe wish I could see baby's whole head but other than taking a few steps back to capture all of the babe and maybe cloning out that bright somewhat distracting (to me) out of focus highlight in the green bit above that woman's head I quite like it
