I'm always interested in "self portraits" as itreally does open us all up....

I like what youve done here... the composition actually works very well as youve framed very well, and used thirds on top of that

the only bad thing i see is that it doesnt "pop" .... but... that might have been the mood you were going for... just seems a bit dull

Thank you for sharing...
you are braver than I ... hate to take selfies and probably wont post em either....

Here is my other version of the same self portrait. I kind of like the first one, I know it doesn't pop but I kind of like the quiet calm mood.

I took this second shot after because, I too found that although I liked the first one, it was a bit "dull."

Which do you prefer, and why?

I like the framing and the composition of your portraits here. I actually prefer the first to the second image, but would make the following suggestions:
1) instead of having your back completely to the camera, maybe turn a bit to the right so we get a sense that you are looking off, pondering out at the open space as we watch from behind the twigs; and
2) remove, or clone out, the twig that is sticking through your back. I find it a bit distracting.

Good setting up and focus is sharp!

Thanks SandeeWig!

I agree about the twigs in the way, I considered breaking them off after I noticed how distracting they were in the viewfinder, but I didn't want to mess with nature. I think I may do a little edit later when I have the time and post it on this thread.

Thanks for the idea about turning myself a bit! I think that might have worked really well with the scene and I'll try it out next time I do a self portrait (I tend to do them a lot so that should be soon).

Thanks!
