Hi
I like the effect. I might, however, limit the amount of texture on the face. Maybe not remove it entirely but mask/lower the opacity. I checked out your flickr link., You have a wonderful lighting in those images!

You have BEAUTIFUL coloring and lighting on your flickr collection. Agree, lighten the texture on teh face, and then you have a great image!

zona5101 & kleidascope: thank you for taking the time to comment.. now that you say it, i do think the texture on the face is more than a tad too much...really appreciate that you pointed them out... and thanx for the morale boost on the lighting .. still learning it and trying to be more creative with it...

EDIT: Had time to edit..reduce the texture around face by masking around 50%... How is it now?

I myself am just starting to get into textures, but what I've seen/heard... it's pretty standard to remove textures (almost if not completely) from face and skin areas in most portraits.

Still would like it removed more.

i'm torn... i like the effect but shirt is too modern for it i think. it also seems like the shirt is too bright or something, making it look surreal. since i'm not a PS expert, i'm not sure how to do the masks and such, but it seems like the shirt should be able to blend more.

i do think it's a great start though!

What a gorgeous baby! I must agree with the others. I think less is more.
