boys at the beach

I would love some feedback on these photographs. I was aiming to capture the mood of the day, it's late afternoon, bright sunshine. Does the exposure, composition and effect of the sunshine work?? Is the silhoutte look working? Maybe they should be black and white?? Which one is the best or are they just a bit boring?

I don't really like the 1st and 3rd ones because of the blown reflections in the water. Too distracting. I like the concept of the photos though.

I really like the second one although I'd like to see more light on the boys. I think it's extremely difficult to shoot a backlit shot like this one (and the others) and get the lighting right without reflectors or flash or something.

Thanks for your input, do you think it would work if i lightened the boys using photoshop??

You can certainly try. Might work. I do that sometimes (in Lightroom). I find it works some of the time but not all of the time.
